 Takasugi Shinsuke 高杉 晋助 NAME & BIRTH: The family name Takasugi means "High Cedar", and Shinsuke is an archaic male given name. He is, of course, slightly modeled after Takasugi Shinsaku, the legendary war hero whose actions led to the Meiji Restoration. His birthday is August 10th, making him a Leo, and he carries that sign very well. VISUAL: Takasugi is short, stocky, and built. He's a warrior so his body is toned, and his features are sharp, dark hair and green eyes. He almost always has a sour or somber expression on his face. His military uniform is a black jacket, lined purple and trimmed gold, a slate vest, dark slacks and boots, and a light sash tying them off. DEMEANOR: One-on-one, he's languid, meandering, confident. He slouches more than any dojo-trained samurai ought. Leans back, relaxes, melts into things -- but he also has a commanding air, palms-down aggression, jaw tilted up. In public or with people he doesn't know well, he's more likely to look like his militant self: back straight, posture erect, highly alert. AURAL: Takasugi’s voice actor is Takehito Koyasu, one of the most well-known voices for this particular role: a villain. It’s deep and rich and smooth, commanding and dark and mysterious, especially to the public. In private -- in moments of rage -- his voice will go harsh and raspy and breathy. His laugh sounds like something a hyena would choke on. You can hear samples here and here, but they do contain spoilers so be warned. He speaks easily, but at his own pace, and he sometimes has a Western accent, usually when he's comfortable or being isolating. OLFACTORY: Sweat, blood, smoke, war, humidity, rot, decay -- especially in hell. He's been at war for years. MENTAL INFORMATION: There's nothing magical there but he is intelligent, guarded, and thinks in an extremely erratic and nonlinear way. If he wasn't keen to it, mind reading him wouldn't be a problem, but if it was forceful or painful he'd put up a good fight. The second time would be even more difficult because he'd strategize how to combat it. I'd definitely love to play out the possibilities so let's discuss it! MAGICAL INFORMATION: He has no magic himself! Anyone who can see malicious intent or souls or whatnot would know he's a chaotic guy with a lot of violence and sadism pinned to his nature.
